Available
oxygen in the ambient air declines with altitude. At 9,000 feet
AGL the amount of oxygen needed for normal thinking is breached
and continues to decline with increasing altitude. At 14,000
feet thought processes are reduced to that of a young child. The
need for oxygen at altitude and the latest oxygen delivery
systems will be presented. Carbon monoxide poisoning, which
blocks the transport of oxygen to the brain, and the latest
monitoring systems will be reviewed.
